New Principals Appointed To Lead Upper Primary To Senior Schools
24/11/2022

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – We are delighted to announce the appointment of Rebecca Layton-Short as our new Principal of Upper Primary to Senior School, Girls, and Paul McConnell as Principal of Upper Primary to Senior School, Boys.

Both Rebecca and Paul have been carefully chosen by the Misk Schools Board and bring with them a wealth of school leadership expertise from across
the globe.

Rebecca trained as a teacher at the University of Cambridge in England before embarking on a challenging and varied overseas career that has taken her
to countries as diverse as Qatar, Belgium, Japan, and China. She has enjoyed almost two decades in senior leadership roles at top-tier international schools, including the British International School Riyadh, Brighton College Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, and the British International School Cairo. She is an adept teacher
and leader at both primary and senior school levels, and is particularly experienced working in girls schools – most notably at the prestigious Latifa School for Girls in Dubai.

Rebecca has completed the National Professional Qualification for Headship and is a trained inspector of international schools. She joins us in
December 2022.

Paul is a graduate of Moray House Institute of Education, Edinburgh and has spent the last 26 years immersed in the teaching profession. After completing his initial foundation phase in the UK, he has held senior leadership positions in high performing schools across Asia, China and the Middle East.

Paul also spent ten years in the British Army Reserve, commissioning from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 2002, which led to the role of Commanding Officer of what is now 8th Rifles Battalion. This experience has helped to shape Paul’s approach to teaching and learning, contributing to his belief that leadership qualities are best nurtured through a values-based education that encourages personal discipline, alongside educational ambition. Paul joins us in January 2023.
